Current roles

Deputy Director, American Institute of Mathematics (AIM) — 2022–present: I work closely with the Executive Director to create, manage, and oversee AIM’s scientific programs — more than 20 workshops and 60+ SQuaRE research groups each year — and I share responsibility for the institute’s leadership, budgeting, fundraising, and representation to the mathematical community. I was a major contributor to and co-PI on the $12.7M NSF award establishing AIM’s Research Conference Center (“A Model for Collaboration,” 2025–2030), and I oversaw AIM’s move to its new home on the Caltech campus.
Co-Editor-in-Chief, La Matematica — 2022–present: One of four founding editors-in-chief of the flagship journal of the Association for Women in Mathematics, published by Springer. We built the journal around equitable publishing practices — a doubly anonymous review process, a name-change policy, constructive reviews, quick turnaround, and an editorial board with exceptional diversity.
Associate Secretary, Western Section, American Mathematical Society — 2023–present: Responsible for the scientific program of two AMS sectional meetings each year and the Joint Mathematics Meetings every four years, and a member of the AMS Council. Associate Secretary in charge of JMM 2024 (San Francisco) and JMM 2028 (Philadelphia), and of the AMS Joint International Meeting in Armenia (2028).

Program Director, Division of Mathematical Sciences, National Science Foundation — 2018–2021: Stewarded a portfolio of research and education awards — primary responsibility for 100+ proposals a year and shared responsibility for 500+ — across the Algebra and Number Theory, REU, CAREER, Focused Research Groups, Research Training Groups, and CDS&E programs. Helped propose a new “Research Initiation” program to support investigators launching their research careers.
Professor, Department of Mathematics, University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa — 2008–2023: Faculty member for fifteen years (Assistant, Associate, then full Professor), with an active research program and extensive departmental and university service. (See Teaching & Outreach for teaching and mentoring.)

Roots of Unity workshop — co-founder and co-organizer, 2022–present: A workshop supporting graduate students’ transition to research in algebra, combinatorics, geometry, topology, and number theory, designed to build a welcoming and inclusive research community. Brought to the math institutes with funding I secured through a collaborative NSF grant.
Women in Numbers (WIN) — Steering Committee (Founding Chair, 2015–2019; member, 2019–present): An international research network building collaborations and community among women in number theory. Co-organized WIN research collaboration workshops at the Banff International Research Station (2011, 2017) and edited the resulting proceedings volumes.
